Lot better now and i will give them this they have continuously and in reasonable time updated adding new features and improvemnts creating a better level of complexity to game.result well worth a replay. This game is similar to "Sid Meier's Pirates" in that it is top-down ship/fleet combat and world navigation with lots of detail and many ships to play. It is easy to get engrossed in this for hours.. This is pretty good mix of Arcade-Shooter-RTS with naval inspired content.Where you can findAdequate Stone-Scissor-Paper Scheme with different but still useful ships* in variety of circumstances.Completely destructible ship scheme from AA defence to Breach hull. You could cripple ship and draw fire on another opponent or mix your tactics as you wish. But actually this have much more sense on larger ships.Shooter game like WoT (or most probably WoW) but still without MP.Strategy where experience of ships commanders are essential for AI reaction.Historical battles are really challenges and go for it if you wish some difficulties to overcome.Free roaming campaign where nobody will lead you by the hand. But where you can not findMultiplayerComprehensive simulation of the naval battle line like Jutland from Storm Eagle Studios*Torpedo boat are almost invulnerable for main artillery weapon of all ships due to its size and speed but easy to kill by conventional machine guns from short distance.Destroyers are indispensable class against sub due to specific weaponry and good speed and maneuvering.Corvette are the best against sub (hedgehog weapon allow attack subs even in front) - you could entrust it AI to overcome submarines.Cruisers fleet much more versatile in terms of armor-speed-weaponry and equally bad in all compared to all other classes.Battlecruiser could be carrier killer due perfect speed and range but costly almost as some of Battleships which are really ships you need to fear especially if you still have not air carriers. Carriers are "sea artillery": it's unpunished sea killer but you can still find counter measures. And if you lack of on-water power - you can catch opponent by subs.. I do feel like I've gotten my monies worth out of this game. I bought this game a while ago when it was on sale on Humble Bundle and didn't know much about it. Being about to build a fleet out of my favorite WW2 ships is pretty amazing! The major thing I would like changed though is that I wish AI fleets scaled to your own later in game. so there's more challenge instead of feeling like I role over everything.. A very basic version of Sid Meier's Pirates set during the Second World War.- Some of the ship models look disappointingly inaccurate.- The game can be quite a grind at the start, but becomes more fun once you unlock cruisers.- Combat feels basic and will bore you by the time you unlock battleships.- The North Atlantic Campaign has you fighting the Italian navy, the French Navy and the German navy, the latter two fielding Navy's of comparable size to the Royal Navy. Germany has apparently travelled back in time to recreate the High Sea's fleet and rarely fields submarines.- If you want to play as another nation, or even the same nation in a different campaign, you'll have to grind XP all over again.. Victory At Sea is a fun little wargame that suffers from a few front-loaded annoyances. Like many games in this genre, the campaign has a strategic map in which you sail from port to port, and a tactical map for in-game combat. The tactical gameplay is quite strong, whether you elect to pay it RTS-style by letting the AI control your armada, or if you use the quite versatile pause-any-time engine to control most of your ships manually. The biggest gripe with this game is the mission engine. At ports, you can request a mission from HQ, but these these missions are often wildly unbalanced or outright mechanically impossible. The Mediterrean campaign seems to be the worst in this regard; sailing from base to base frequently takes longer than you're given to complete a mission. That said, there's no penalty for failing, and you don't need to take missions to complete the game.Like many World War II naval games, Victory at Sea heavily emphasizes naval aviation. Aircraft carriers are far and away the dominant class of ships in the mid-to-late game. Besides their historical advantages, aircraft carriers in Victory At Sea enjoy operating at night just as well as they do during the day, and continuing landing and launching aircraft even while under direct fire from enemy forces. As a result, much of the late game can be turn into great flock of aircraft carriers sailing from port to port, destroying defenders and capturing harbors for your team.Overall, the game plays rather well, and I'd definitely suggest it for any fans of theater-scale naval warfare in the 1940's. It keeps the subject matter interesting without sacrificing entertainment value in the name of historical accuracy. Each campaign takes about six hours to play, and if you're like me, you'll get at least 5 campaigns out the game.. I didnt think i would enjou this game as much as i do. I cant wait to see what the updates bring!!!. Overall an enjoyable game, but by no means is it 25$ worth, it just feels a little steep for what it is. You can find this game somewhere in the realm of 5-10$ which is definitly worth it. The fun is definitly aquiring a nice big fleet of ships over time and taking the fight to various enemies about the map and pushing your side to victory. Its very much like "mount and blade" in that sense. I like the freedom of floating about looking for ships or ports, and its not just scripted chain of events or battles. I think it works very well for these type of games. The biggest anoyance though is the attrocious AI, they can somewhat shoot but you can manually click shoot way more accurate, it would take you a minute to sink what would take the AI 3-5 minutes. But the bigger issue is the torpedo avoidance. If you want to loose a good number of ships, then by all means use the AI. Any time ships fire torpedos you need to manually adjust course and wait till they are clear before putting AI back on because inevitably they will steer the ships right back into them for some stupid reason. Look at it more like total war games where you can battle or auto resolve. If you battle you might loose 5% to an easy enemy, if you auto resolve your going to loose about 30-40%. Same idea just AI or manual control everything (which does become tiring)Theres a bit too much arcade to this, hit points, vague differences in what appear to be the same outfitting but on an entirely different ship for a different price. Some other much needed things, auto sinking convoys once all escorts are sunk, just annoying to mop them up Port assaults too are quite garbage feeling and feels like it needs a complete rework or just toss it in the bin and let it be captured when theres no support left and theres no fleets nearby. It could also be greatly expanded in the support and supplies area as opposed to random convoys moving about. Actually make supplies mean something to strive for and give way to help support and move convoys along or actual patrol options. i dont know, theres many possibilities. If this company continues to develop games along this line and adds a good bump to realism, and more depth and AI mechanics, immersion, etc, then it would definitly be a must buy on my list. Dont let the negatives steer you away, For what the game is, its fun, and simple enough and it feels like a good base that could turn into something much more fun if the idea is further developed.Again for the 5 to 10$ you can find it for, its definitly worth it.. If you like RTS games this one of them at their finest,I've only got a few hrs on this and yet i'm still wanting more,Graphics are average however that being said, most other aspects of the game are quite well balanced. In my opinion nothing is overpowered when it comes to the ships you can command or vs,as I found out 3-5 destroyers can take on cruisers and in some cases heavy cruisers,so long as you have atleast some idea about strategic aswell as tactical thinking,Though stay away from carriers or battleships if you do not have your own ;).Mission are great and not overly challenging in anyway,Though I did only get to do 9 in total,as I think i might have done one that resolves in the end of the game,it was in the Mediteranian and it said Hitler and some guy starting with M had been killed/captured and that the hostile forces of those leader's surrendered to the British and American Allies. So a fix of sorts on that end would make it alot more entertaining. All in all this game has alot of potential and if you like M&B warband or any of the Total war series, you should find this entertaining. And one last thing,if you could perhaps(developers) add defenses to the ports and the ability to upgrade them(defenses aswell as ports),while also having the AI step it up a notch if one could do so, I really think alot more people would want this game not just wanna try it out :).
